UNICEF Greeting Cards

6 November 2006 – UNICEF Poland launched a new information campaign “Choose charity greeting cards”. We want to draw attention to the fact that total revenue received from our charity card sale helps to finance social initiatives for children.

More than 80% of Polish families send Christmas greetings to their relatives, friends, clients and colleagues. Would you like to send a Christmas card that would save somebody’s life?

The idea to sell charity greeting cards has been initiated by UNICEF. In 1949 a Czech girl, Jitka, drew a picture to thank our organization for delivering milk to children injured during the World War II. That inspired UNICEF to distribute charity greeting cards to cover the costs of many initiatives aimed at children. The best known drawings are that of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall. Up to this day, we have sold about 5 billion cards all over the world!

UNICEF cards can pride themselves not only in quality and unique design, but in providing support to programs that save children’s lives in the poorest regions of the world.

  • one card, for instance, covers the cost of vaccines against measles for 3 children
  • 100 cards cover the cost of a year-long care of one orphaned child in Africa

This year UNICEF celebrates its 60th anniversary. Since 1946 we have managed to extend our activities to 155 countries. Our work resulted in saving countless lives and improving living conditions of million of children from all over the world thanks to proper medical care, nutrition, education and protection from violence and abuse.

People all over the world who choose our greeting cards help us save children’s lifes. Make a conscious decision. By sending a beautiful card you support one of the most recognized organizations that helps children!

Believe in Santa

More than 20 000 children live in Polish orphanages. They know what it means to be lonely and vulnerable. However, on St. Nicholas Day on 6th December we can make these children feel that they are not alone and that there is someone who cares for them. According to the guidelines of Believe in Santa campaign, on this “magical day” all orphaned children taking part in our project will find special gifts hidden under their pillows.

We are not able to substitute the genuine feeling of closeness and warmth of the family life, but we can make these children feel special andbring a smile to their faces. What is more, we will make the youngest ones believe that Santa really exists!

For the first time the campaign was organized in December 2004 under the auspices of the Warsaw Stock-Exchange and the companies listed on its stock exchange. The donors have shown a great interest in the campaign and it was also warmly received by the orphanages. For this reason we decided to repeat the action every year.

During the campaign’s 1st edition 800 children from 17 orphanages received our gifts. In December 2005 we donated gifts to 1800 children from 41 orphanages.

This year we would like to provide gifts to at least 1900 children. Every child will receive a gift with his or her name on it.

An average orphanage holds about 60 children. We calculated that the amount of PLN 3500,- should cover the cost of gift purchase for one orphanage.

An additional advantage is the fact, that by buying UNICEF items for Polish children, the donors automatically support the UNICEF’s world campaign. According to the UNICEF regulations, all funds received from sale of cards and other items are used to finance UNICEF programs in developing countries.

In order to take part in Believe in Santa campaign, every donor is requested to fill in a notification form and send it to the office of the Polish National Committee for UNICEF as well as pay money to our account for UNICEF branded toys and gifts. Every company taking part in the project will be honored a title of Believe in Santa campaign participant.

Let the children believe in Santa Claus!
