Ipsos' consumer optimism indicator down by 4.18pts to 92.56pts in August

The Consumer Optimism Indicator (WOK) decreased by 4.18pts m/m to 92.56pts in August (on a scale of 0-200), the market and public opinion research agency Ipsos has reported.


The economic climate indicator fell by 10.09pts to 80.66pts. In reply to the government's plans to raise VAT rate by 1pp next year, the percentage of those expecting worsening of economic situation grew by 7pps m/m to 32%, Ipsos noted.

These plans also translates into inflation fears - the percentage of those expecting prices to rise faster now grew to 37% from 19%, it added.

The share of Poles who expect unemployment to rise is 40%, up by 10pps on the month. At the same time, the purchasing propensity indicator inched down by a mere 0.23pps to 100.50pts.

The WOK survey was carried out on Aug 6-16, 2010, among a randomly chosen group of 1003 Poles aged 15 and above.
