The short walk over the Old Town Square is relaxing and far from the Warsaw’s city centre rush. After entering the restaurant one can found themselve in stylish and classical interiors remaining old times of the Polish history. Sitting by the window provides a great view over the Royal Castle, Zygmunt III’s column and people passing by on their way for Warsaw’s "Starowka" (Old Town) sightseeing. While weather is nice, the restaurant offers a table in the romantic summer garden.
Staromiejska Restaurant specializes in the real Polish cuisine. I started with nice combination of smoked salmon and Polish cottage cheese – Roulads (PLN 30). The combination was really tasty and together with great fresh and crispy Polish rolls I began to enjoy the place. My gentle half took Fresh spinach and melon salad with walnuts and cherry preserve (PLN 25). Streghten by the starters’ experience both our expectations and hunger for main dish grew up. I went for a juicy steak - Grilled beef fillet “Zygmunt III” served with chanterelles in cream and deep-fried potatoes (PLN 52) – and I must admit that I recall this steak whenever I hear Zygmunt’s name. The delicious taste of the steak strengthened by chanterelles in cream were pleasing my taste buds. I was enjoying the meal, enjoying the view of the lovely lady sitting opposite to me, doing my “behind window” Royal square sightseeing and having a great time. Also it should be said that the
meals are feeding not your stomach only, but also your eyes with its nice decoration. What a great day, only Sunshine was missing.
The other meal I had a chance to taste from my beloved one’s plate was Lemon sole served in dill sauce with rice and asparagus (PLN 45), also delicious.
To close the Polish tasty experience we took traditional Polish desserts – “Szarlotka” (Apple Pie, PLN 14) and “Sernik” (Cheese Pie, PLN 14), which you cannot miss as they are baked according to the secret, family tradition of the restaurant owner.
To sum up, this was just great relaxing time with delicious meals giving us a good start for our relaxing Saturday’s afternoon. At the evening they also have live jazz piano music so who knows, we may just come back to start our relaxing evening.
A dinner lubricates business.
