Poland has a moderate continental climate with considerable maritime influence along the Baltic coast. As a result, the weather can be unpredictable. Summer is usually warm and sunny, with July the hottest month, but it´s the season with the highest rainfall. Spring and autumn are pleasantly warm but can also be rainy. You can expect snow anywhere in Poland between December and March, lingering until April or even May in the mountains.
The tourist season runs roughly from May to September and peaks in July and August. Many Poles - and their children – go on holidays during these two month, so transport is crowded and accomodation is often limited. Most theatres and concert halls are also closed at this time. The best time to visit Poland is either spring (late April to late June) or early autumn (September to mid-October). These periods are pleasantly warm and ideal for general sightseeing and outdoor activities. Many cultural events still take place in both periods.
Mid-autumn to mid-spring is colder, darker and perhaps less attractive for most visitors. However, it is not a bad time to visit city sights and enjoy the cultural life. Except for skiing (from December to March), outdoor activities are less prominent in this period.
